Most people watch YouTube on a phone, so it makes sense to download YouTube thumbnails on mobile too. You don't need to install anything — a browser is all it takes. Here's how to do it on both Android and iPhone.
On Android
- Open the YouTube app, tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
- Open Chrome (or any browser) and go to our thumbnail downloader.
- Tap the input box, then tap Paste to drop the link in.
- Press Get Thumbnails and choose your size — HD 1280×720 for best quality.
- Tap Download. The image saves to your Downloads folder, and you'll usually find it in your Gallery or Files app.
On iPhone (iOS)
- In the YouTube app, tap Share → Copy Link.
- Open Safari and visit our homepage.
- Long-press the input box, choose Paste, then tap Get Thumbnails.
- Tap Download. If the image opens in a new tab, long-press it and select Save to Photos.
iOS is stricter about downloads. If the automatic save doesn't trigger, the long-press → Save to Photos method always works.
Why the browser method wins
You could search the app stores for a downloader app, but most are packed with ads, ask for unnecessary permissions, or add watermarks. A browser-based tool keeps things clean: nothing to install, nothing running in the background, and no watermark on your HD thumbnail download.
Saving data on slower connections
On a limited mobile plan, remember that bigger images use more data. If you only need a preview, grab the 320×180 or 480×360 size instead of the full HD file. Our tool shows the exact dimensions next to each option so you can choose deliberately.
Where do the files go?
On Android, downloads usually land in the Downloads folder and appear in your Gallery or the Files app; some phones drop images straight into Pictures. On iPhone, using Save to Photos puts the image directly in your camera roll, while a normal download goes to the Files app under Downloads. If you can't find a file, search your gallery by most-recent, or check the browser's own download list.
App vs mobile browser
You'll copy the link from the YouTube app, but the actual saving happens in your mobile browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox or any other. There's no need to leave the browser or install a separate downloader app. This keeps your phone clean and avoids the ads, permissions and watermarks that many store apps bundle in. It also means the tool updates instantly: you always get the latest version just by refreshing the page.
Troubleshooting
- Paste button does nothing? Your browser may block clipboard access — just long-press the box and paste manually.
- HD size looks unavailable? The video was likely uploaded below 720p; pick the next size down.
- Image opens instead of saving? Long-press it and choose Save image / Save to Photos.
- Nothing downloads on iPhone? iOS often needs the manual long-press → Save to Photos step — it always works.
